Efficient potential equation solutions for global illumination computation
نویسندگان
چکیده
The potential equation provides a natural mathematical basis for all the illumination computation methods based on the strategy of shooting light. The particle tracing technique which p h ysically simulates the particle model of light, can also be considered as a general, random walk based solution to the potential equation. As the complexity of the environment increases, the straight forward particle tracing method becomes ineecient. In this paper we discuss diierent biasing methods that could be used to increase the eeciency of the particle tracing process. In particular we present an importance driven scheme in which w e use an approximate potential value as the biasing function for directing a majority of the random walks through regions of importance in the environment, thus eeciently estimating the light ux in these regions. A straight forward simple implementation of this scheme has been carried out and the results that we h a ve obtained show that the scheme is very promising.

متن کاملDeducing Explicit from Implicit Visibility for Global Illumination with Antiradiance
The antiradiance method, a variant of radiosity, allows the computation of global illumination solutions without determining visibility between surface patches explicitly, unlike the original radiosity method. However, this method creates excessively many links between patches, since virtually all elements exchange positive and negative energy whose interplay replaces the visibility tests. In t...
متن کاملCache de luminance pour l’éclairage global en présence de surfaces rugueuses
Computation of global illumination is an important means in the pursuit of photorealism of computer-generated images. It is of particular importance in scenes with glossy surfaces, since it conditions correct perception of glossy material characteristics. This dissertation focuses on efficient computation of global illumination in presence of glossy surfaces with low-frequency reflectance funct...
متن کاملNumerical Integration for Radiosity in the Presence of Singularities
The radiosity method for computing global illumination in Lambertian environments requires the computation of form factors. These are given by integrals for which some closed form solutions exist. In general however the integrals need to be approximated numerically. Various schemes have been proposed for this computation. Most of these are based on proximity assumptions which break down when su...
متن کاملGlobal analytic expansion of solution for a class of linear parabolic systems with coupling of first order derivative terms
We derive global analytic representations of fundamental solutions for a class of linear parabolic systems with full coupling of first order derivative terms where coefficients may depend on space and time. Pointwise convergence of the global analytic expansion is proved. This leads to analytic representations of solutions of initial-boundary problems of first and second type in terms of convol...
